The Damage of Delays…

October 09th, 2007 | Category: News

So the list of delays for the PS3 is growing, with another delay today of Valve’s Orange Box which will be released tomorrow for PC and Xbox360 and in several “weeks” for PS3. This doesn’t affect me at all, as I’ve already purchased this for PC and have been enjoying the Team Fortress 2 Beta. But maybe it does affect me as a PS3 owner… is this another thorn in our side that the PS3 is a bit harder to develop for and cross platform titles are always going to appear later on PS3? If it is a development issue than PS3 owners should feel a little knot in their stomach as getting the same games later is just not cool. I wouldn’t have bought Orange Box for PS3 anyway as I feel the PC is a superior platform to play this game on (I’ve been a Half Life fan since SIN and Daikatana came out…) as its been developed exclusively for PC for quite a few years now and I can’t help but think that will show in the Xbox and PS3 ports. On the other hand, if you have never played Half Life 2 (and you aren’t the other main poster on PSmafia with a user id that starts with J who has a completely irrational dislike for the genre defining series that is Half Life) than you owe it to yourself to get Orange Box and experience what may be the finest FPS second installment from start to its current iteration, even if it is a “week or two later” than our Xbox and PC brethern

Home delayed…

Sad sad sad news from the Tokyo Game Show, Home has been delayed. From reading details of what Home wants to accomplish and from reading what has been accomplished in the Beta, a delay isn’t a huge surprise, but a really unwelcome one. That October release date was obviously bull for awhile, and changing it to an indefinite “1st quarter 2008″ doesn’t exactly spark confidence that it will even be done by then. Sony could really meet people halfway on this…open the beta. Even with limited functionality, I would like to try out home and they can get their network code stable as they add more features.
