I suck at fighting games…do you? Maybe this will help!

All this talk of fighting games has got me excited! Why…I don’t really know, there is something intrinsically cool about the fighting games and they’ve held a special status with myself since reading about Street Fighter II in a gaming magazine. The year was way too long ago, and the SNES was just released. Once I got my SNES, Street Fighter II was the very first rental and after several hours of frustration at not being able to accomplish a super move or beat the game on anything but medium the Street Fighter veneer had been somewhat tarnished.
And yet, every time a new cool fighter came out, I got sucked in, and then thoroughly sucked at it. It was never a genre I put time in to get good at. But here we are again, SFIV, KoF XII, Soul Calibur IV, SF II HD REMIX…again I’m tempted, and will probably pick one if not several of these up. However, this time I’ve got some help, I’ve found some cool tutorials that were produced for the Capcom classics release on PS2 which included Street Fighter II. The videos really lay down some much needed fundamentals, and although it is geared towards Street Fighter II Turbo, some of the concepts I’m sure transfer to other 2D fighters. So if you can’t beat the computer past easy like me, or even if you can throughly thump all your friends there might be something here for you.
They were made by David Sirlin who is actually working on the remake of Street Fighter II for HD, and is an accomplished tourney player and an EVO organizer. I have embedded them here for convenience, but they can be found at his website HERE.
They are ordered from Beginner to Advanced.

These are pretty interesting tutorials. At the very least I know why Chun-li keeps kicking my ass now.
I’ll have to wait for HD remix to come out to practice seriously. But I do have a copy of SF II “New Challengers”, on my computer, and although a lot of the intermediate to advanced stuff was lost on me, just thinking of the “rectangles fighting for space” analogy helped me win a match as Zangief…which was completely impossible before.
*throws down gauntlet*
*Bootups up SNES*
*Inserts SSF2 cartridge in SNES*
*Select Ryu*
Time to find a good counter to fireball spam.
A good -F-D-DF [Punch] in the chin would work
That’s it…you’re going down buddy. I’ll beat you with Zangief.
